Negotiations on SHB 1912, the bill that proposed changes to the current solar incentive program in Washington, continued to the 11th hour during this legislative session. Despite the ceaseless efforts of SIW and its lobbyist, Brad Boswell, and the tireless work of SIW Policy Director, Jeremy Smithson, the bill failed to pass in the House Finance Committee.

However, the current incentive program including the sales tax exemption and the production incentives remain in place.

Legislators were unable to reach a resolution on such a technically complex bill. But, many in Olympia continue to support solar and remain committed to passing new legislation ensuring a long and healthy future for the solar industry in Washington.

SIW will have another opportunity to work with decision makers in Olympia to craft new legislation beginning January 2016 when the next session convenes. In the next few months SIW will continue to identify and collaborate with legislators who are committed to making solar work for the long term in Washington.

SIW thanks its supporters for getting the message out over the last several weeks. Please take the time to send an email or make a phone call to thank your legislators for listening and let them know we’ll reach out to them again in the next session.
