Tell your state representative to hold the line on net metering project size

Please take a moment to reach out to your member of the Washington House of Representatives and ask for their vote in favor of HB 1427, the net metering bill that WASEIA has been hard at work on over the last year. A large group of utility lobbyists is trying to water down or kill this legislation, which is vital to our industry’s future.

You can find a direct link to your representative’s Olympia phone number at this link.

We’ve learned today (Feb. 28) the utilities are contacting legislators today and pushing for smaller size limit for systems eligible for net metering. We want legislators to hold system size at up to 1mW.

Here are some talking points:

Allowing systems up to 1 mW ensures that rooftop solar will be feasible for more commercial buildings.

Systems up to 1 mW will prevent our state from forfeiting millions federal dollars available through the Inflation Reduction Act

Systems sized up to 1 mW will protect our state’s open spaces by focusing solar projects on rooftops instead of vacant land

The larger size allows Washington to keep pace with solar deployment in other states. Oregon already allows systems of 2 mW — more than double what WASEIA is proposing in 2SHB 1427

Thank you.
